Oficina de Portfolio

October 21, 2009

“Oficina de Portfolio”, otherwise known as Portfolio Workshop, is a IADE University (the one i’m enrolled) initiative to help students work side by side with industry professionals, in an attempt to introduce students into the real world working context of advertising.

Since their flyer was quite…simple, I derived inspiration for a piece.

Randoming About

June 24, 2009

Random
(who knows, everyone seems to be doing weird conceptual designs).

Working About

First, something I was requested, a cover-like design to represent her. Went for a electro/retro feel.

And the one she liked and took:

One extremely frustrating thing is, due to lack of human or material resources, or plain inexperience, being unable to reproduce an idea bouncing around in your head. But I digress.

Also this;
superbock 1
superbock 2

I like the second guitar better. Anyhow, this was delivered like a couple hours ago, wrapped and sent to a design contest from a national beer company, Super Bock. They seem to want to populate Lisboa with giant, 6 metre tall guitars, and the 5 winning entries will be featured in this way. The point was to create something both related to Portugal and Super Bock, while being real and emotional.

Anyway,
Cheers!

Campaign Contest 02

May 24, 2009

Also, flyers!

Again, consistency of theme, with more information. To curb the costs, we had to get a bit creative here, so we decided to do 4 variations and stand out more, and make folks look 4 times at the same flyer; also, instead of handling them about in the street, or at the entrance of the university, where people might pick and not really pay attention long enough, or care, we are going room to room and handing them there, where the they dont get thrown to the ground, they stay on the tables, bright and noticeable, and are read, since lets face it, students distract quite easily from the lecturers.

Also, the whole public relations, talk directly, feedback, eye contact, etc. A bit more personal.

And then, direct mailing, sent to friends and whoever we could muster, especially to class directors, lecturers and the whole 9 yards. This is free, so we just carpet bombed everything we could.

Also a couple other personalized versions. To acquire invitations to the event, an e-mail is needed, to where we can send the said invitation. Unfortunally this becomes the biggest hindrance in the campaign, since handing an opportunity is much easier then asking for action.

Nonthless, its artvertisers@hotmail.com, also the name of our group, Artvertisers, a simple play of words.

Now until the 29th, its all a matter of continuing the RP’ing, and distributing flyers. Monday we’ll be adding a few twists to the whole thing, I’ll relay at the time.

Cheers.

Campaign Contest 01

May 24, 2009

So, lately been busy with a contest. The point being to produce a campaign for an advertising event that will be happening this 29th of may, here in Portugal, named “Publidevoradores”, a carry-over from the french event of same name.

http://www.publidevoradores.com.pt/

http://www.nuitdespublivores.com/

Its an event of light, humourous note, where several ads from all over the world are shown in a cinema-like fashion, for about 5 hours or so in segments of 45 minutes, 15 minutes break, while also having a whole party around it, with the usual drinks, food stands, entretainment, side-shows and contests, etc. The portuguese version is now in its 2nd interation.

Like mentioned, me and a mate decided to grab this opportunity to have our first full campaign ever, a way to really feel the full aspects of an actual campaign (albeit with extremely limited resources :)). Its an opportunity to win, or fail and learn a lot, which basically means there is no way this can be harmful.

Money and resources scarce, we opted for outdoor, flyer, a lot of RP’ing, direct mailing and some cheap tactics to make people take more notice then it would normally be given;

Outdoor

Final

Being that the prizes are both on creativity and efficiency, we opted for the whole Burp/satisfaction concept. And playing on efficiency, a very visible, outstanding and easily recognizeable color scheme, with familiar faces (all but the lower left are from the same university) to better create empathy and buzz – if we play on our “home field” only, we decided to use known elements. Represents youth, joviality, a certain coy, and try to steer off the negative idea a Burp might have.

3 posters were printed, A1 and A3, and placed around where they could be seen the most.

Salvador Dali

April 29, 2009

I have this project that needs to be done about some random person, to which I picked Salvador Dali, being an extremely influential creative individual both in society at the time to even nowdays, and by agreeing with many feelings and aspects he expressed via his personality, and subsequently via drawings, acting, photography, etc.

Anyway, doing a complex cover is not exactly necessary, nonthless, I found this as an opportunity to motivate and set myself an aim at creativity. Here’s a few results, I should produce more as ideas come along, there’s still plenty of time before I need this delivered.

If able, I’ll probably print one of the oil canvas ones in an actual canvas, should give a nice, visual, tactile appeal.

Cheers!

University Ribbon

April 26, 2009

Anyway, in Portugal there’s this custom where soon-to-be-graduates hand out ribbons to others, so they can write things, wishing good luck, etc. Which brings me, I was handed this kind of ribbon, and went to work!; now all there’s left is to write a message and hand it out. Here’s the design, which I found funny how I ended up “sketching” in photoshop and doing the actual work as I went (also doing by pen and without the addition of color, that became mandatory halfway).

And here’s the drawn out work, added with details and fleshed out as needed;

detail-15
detail-24
detail-33

Custom is to write messages and such, but I find they all end up being the same archetypes – the person in question knows I wish them the best of everything, so I might as well draw in something that carries some meaning, diferentiates from other ribbons and relates to the person in question.

Cheers!

Random Update

April 3, 2009

I wish I could focus more on tasks at hand. In reality, what happens the most is spreading out efforts amongst several things and not accomplishing anything. With that said, here’s some random work, a first for a finished Illustrator + ‘Shop work.

Trance

First time I went ahead and accomplished thru a sketch to the computer. Also learned a few things about saving files and image types, what can be saved, etc.

Photography

March 25, 2009

New day,  new post.

Recently acquired a new software, Photomatix Pro, which allows for some interesting editions and most importantly, increasing the dynamic range, turning them into HDR photography. So after playing around, I came up with this; first the original photo…

Moroccan Bike - Original

Then the edited;

Moroccan Bike Edited

After dabbling around the manual, I ended up converting it to HDR via 5 photos of different exposure, with a lot of experimentation in Photoshop, since I found the end HDR result dry, lacking…”something”.

You can download the trial and buy the software via download in their SITE.

This was my first attempt with this tool, which turned out alright for me, but you can see some master works following this link

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/03/10/35-fantastic-hdr-pictures/

I’d love doing this kind of production. I’ll get there eventually.

Heres another picture meanwhile, also made via Photomatix and Photoshop post-editing.

Marrakech City

and the edited. This one has less artistic editing, and more of an attempt to simply increase sharpness and quality.

Marrakech Night

Both photos taken at a recent trip to Morocco. Its a massively beautiful country, and certainly no lack of photographic oportunities.
